Barbara Ann Nelson

Barbara Ann Nelson, age 53, of Storm Lake, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at her residence of Storm Lake.

A memorial service was held on Friday, April 27 at the Church of Christ of Alta with the Rev. Kevin Lewis officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Laurens Cemetery of Laurens. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.

Barbara was born Aug. 10, 1958, to Carl Nelson and Bertha Bishop-Nelson in Storm Lake. Barb graduated from Barnum High School (Northwest Webster). After attending Iowa Central Community College and Buena Vista University, she received a BA degree in Social Work. Barb worked various jobs during her life time including Social Worker, Wal-Mart, Glove Factory, Spectra Health Care, Telemarking and gave out food samples in various area grocery stores. She also volunteered caring for animals at an animal shelter ran by her very good friend, Carolyn Snedeker. Barb was also a board member of the shelter for several years. Barb loved cats and had several special cats during her life. She loved, cared for and spent much time with her most recent two cats, Sapphire and Faith Rose. She also cherished spending time and visiting with family and friends.

Barb had great love for her Heavenly Father and was baptized in the Church of Christ in Fort Dodge, Iowa. When she moved to Storm Lake, she became a member of the Church of Christ in Alta.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha (Bishop) Nelson; father, Carl Nelson; grandparents, Bill and Ella Bishop; uncle, Donald Bishop, aunt, Betty Alt, aunt, Margaret Brockey, aunt, Rhina Henderson, uncle, William Bishop, uncle, Alfred Henderson, aunt, Carol Bishop, grandparents, Alvin and Cecil Nelson, uncle, Leo Nelson, uncle, Raymond Nelson, uncle, Harold Nelson, uncle, Marvin Nelson, uncle, Louie Kleespies, uncle, Jimmie Bogue, aunt, Hazel Kleespies, aunt, Marjorie Bogue, aunt, Edna Nelson, and aunt, RoseAnn Nelson.

Left to cherish her memory are uncle, Harris Bishop, Storm Lake, uncle, Gerald Bishop, (MaryAnn) Spencer, uncle, Wayne Bishop, (MaryBeth) Everly, uncle, Ron Bishop, (Barb) Tucson, Ariz., aunt, Joyce Matzdorf, (Larry) Williams, Ariz., aunt, Cheryl (Stan) Cox, aunt, Helen Nelson, Correctionville, aunt, Coleen Nelson, Tama, aunt, Ginger Nelson, Arizona; step mother, Dorothy Nelson, Florida and many cousins and friends. Also her two cats, Sapphire and Faith Rose.
