The Relay for Life, a fundraiser for cancer prevention and services, will be held Friday, June 22 at the Storm Lake High School track.
The theme for 2012 will be "Relay For Life Olympic Games: Where Survivors Win the Gold"
Events begin at 5:30 p.m. with a community meal. Opening Ceremony will be at 7 p.m. with the Survivor Lap following - all cancer survivors are invited to the meal and to join in the Survivor Lap. New this year: Survivor Medals will be given out, along with their commemorative t-shirt and pin with the year on it.
Luminaria Bags are available for a suggested donation of $10. New this year- If you are a survivor who would like to honor your Caregiver- Caregiver Luminaria bags will also be available.
There will be a Silent Auction, games, Zumba, pie and ice cream, Survivor Tent and Garden and much more, according to Dana Kauffman, Community Relations director for the American Cancer Society Midwest Division.
If anyone is interested in forming a team or to get more information, call Peggy Slagle at 299-3387. Teams can form at any time, however pre-orders for T-shirts are due May 4th.
Participants and teams may also sign up online at www.relayforlife.org/buenavistacountyia. A new Facebook Page has just been added also, Relay For Life of Buena Vista County, local residents are invited to "like" it to follow along with event preparations.
