String instructor Carol Peterson practices with the 4th grade orchestra in preparation for Tuesday's concert.
The fourth grade students of Storm Lake Elementary School will present the final concert of this school year on Tuesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the elementary gym. The 30-member orchestra, under the direction of Carol Peterson, will perform three songs which culminate their first year as string players. Following the orchestra performance, the 143-fourth grade students of Jason Baker, Jacquie Drey, Mel Fisher, Jane Larson, Kathryn McCabe, and Ana Phillips will perform "The Hero in Us All", a musical written by Michael and Jill Gallina, which is a celebration of everyday heroes.
Under the direction of Pegg Havens, the students will sing songs about sports heroes, community heroes, and people who have immigrated to the United States. Parents and friends of 4th grade students who are members of the police, firefighters, military, and teachers, as well as immigrants, will be invited to stand with the students during select songs. Approximately 62 students auditioned and were selected for special singing, speaking, rapping, dancing and pantomime parts during the 30-minutes musical. The concert is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to view student artwork on display in and around the art room before the concert starts.
