Clifford R. Christensen, age 85, of Alta, died April 18, 2012 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 21, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements
Clifford Raymond Christensen was born Feb. 4, 1927 in Rodman, the son of J.C. and Emma (Davidson) Christensen. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
Growing up, he attended school in Rodman through the eighth grade.
On Nov. 17, 1948 Cliff was united in marriage to Ellen Janice Harson at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Together, they were blessed with four children: Mary, Jeanine, Gary, and Sharon.
Cliff was a passionate lifelong farmer. One could always find him out driving his red tractor with a smile on his face. He farmed near Emmetsburg and then into Minnesota for one year and also Pocahontas. In 1959, they moved north of Alta where he continued to farm. Cliff loved spending time with his family and friends. He treasured being able to get together with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Ellen Christensen of Alta; children: Mary (Ordell) Weiland of Alta; Gary Christensen of Sutherland; Sharon "Sue" (Larry) Grieme of Alta; grandchildren: Jody (Jim) Childs; Cory (Mindy) Weiland; Tammy (Philip) Kempadoo; Ashley Christensen (Travis Miller); Whitney Christensen (Drew Dillon); Dane Christensen (Crystal Egdorf); Sara Grieme; Laura (Nate) Sanders; Johanna Grieme; great-grandchildren: Mason Childs; Conner, Cade, and Carter Weiland; Cara Kempadoo; brother, Richard (Leatrice) Christensen of Spirit Lake; brothers-in-law: Paul Kooker of Emmetsburg; Don (Virginia) Harson of Hartley; sisters-in-law: Marion Morgan of Storm Lake; Lowene Heaverlo of Council Bluffs; Ruth Harson of Emmetsburg; Carol Douglas of Spencer; Nancy Glackin of Dickens; many nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Emma Christensen; daughter, Jeanine Marie Christensen; brother, Ernest Christensen; sisters: Margaret Willis, Dorothy Kooker, Genevieve Glynn, Mable Harms, Florence Hutchins; granddaughter, Piper Ellen Kempadoo; parents-in-law, Harry and Carol (Hoke) Harson; brothers-in-law: Robert Harson, Harold Harson, Lyle Douglas, Cecil Morgan, Vernon (Berenta) Dunham, James Heaverlo, and Alvin Glackin.
