Wayne Cole, age 86, of Storm Lake, died March 26, 2012 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full Military Rites by the AMVETS Post #66. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne Cole was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Varina, the son of Arthur and Edna (Clark) Cole. He was baptized and confirmed.

Growing up, Wayne attended school and graduated from Schaller High School in 1943.

On Dec. 11, 1943 Wayne entered the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 27, 1945.

On April 3, 1950, Wayne was united in marriage to Cleo Jean Schott in Minneapolis, Minn. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Karn and Jan.

Wayne was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake for 51 years where he served as a Deacon for several years. Wayne was a volunteer fireman for the Storm Lake Fire Department from 1962 -- 1974. He worked at the Hatchery in Marathon and also the Paint Store in Storm Lake as a carpenter. He then worked at Inman Electric in Storm Lake before going to work for Iowa Electric as a meter reader from 1965-1988 when he retired.

Wayne loved yard work and working on small woodworking projects. He also loved the outdoors. Wayne treasured spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Karn J. Monson of Cherokee; and Jan (Joel) Thevenin of Aurelia; grandchildren: Alison Monson (Tyler Simoens); Tim (Taryn) Monson; Darci Monson (Mike Walton); Austin and Shaina Thevenin; great-grandchildren: Ryder Monson; Layla Simoens; step-great-grandchild, Kayden Howell; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Cole; wife, Cleo Jean Cole; two brothers and two sisters.
