Larry Buettner's life began in the summer of 1944 and was born to Rolland (Bud) and Dorothy Buettner in Emmetsburg on April 27, 1945. He spent his early childhood and school days at his family's farm near Plover. In 1957, Larry's family moved to the current residence near Webb.

Larry attended and graduated from Webb High School in 1963 where he met his future wife and many long time friends. He joined the Army after high school and served from 1963 to 1965. Upon returning home from the Service he married his high school sweetheart Sharon Kay Woodford Buettner in 1965. Larry and Sharon farmed near Webb along side his father for many years.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to convert the family farm to a game farm and shooting preserve in 1967. Larry's love of nature led him to turn his property into a wildlife haven for generations to come. His business also allowed him to enjoy his love of travel while delivering game birds. Over the years Larry, "The Duck Man", traveled over 6 million miles and made many great friends amongst the sporting dog community across the country.

Larry was active in his community serving on the School Board, Conservation Board, and many offices within Concordia Lutheran Church in Webb. Larry and Sharon were avid bowlers and enjoyed many years of friendship and fun at many bowling alleys in the area.

Larry's love of hunting and fishing led him to northern South Dakota where he purchased a lake property and spent many days enjoying God's bounty at his land there with family and friends. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting geese--particularly at the Lower Brule Reservation in South Dakota, attending sporting events of his sons, and planning treasure hunts for his grandchildren. Larry's favorite and most important pastime was studying the Bible and yearned to learn the true meaning of God's Word. He especially enjoyed his time studying with Pastor Arnold Murray of Shepherds Chapel and many other pastors throughout the years. Larry's relationship with God was the most important thing in his life. His goal was to spread the True Word of God and plant seeds of faith to all. God's gift to Larry was his friendly personality and love of people -- always there to give a story or to lend a helping hand. Larry passed from this earth on Sunday, March 25th 2012 at the farm he loved near Webb.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons: Kiley (Denyce) Buettner of Garretson, S.D.; Beau (Sara) Buettner of Webb; Kenley (fiancée, Miranda Rasmussen) Buettner of Webb; sisters: Connie Jo (Geoff) Haaland of Lyles, Tenn.; Becky (Tim) Christy of Burns, Tenn.; grandchildren: Braden, Rebekah, Ian, and Michael; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends who shared in his life.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Dorothy (Filloon) Buettner; and his brother Gary Buettner.
