Harry J. Johnson, age 83, of Fonda, died March 15, 2012 at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, at the United Church of Christ in Fonda. Burial was in the Cedar Cemetery in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda was in charge of the arrangements.
Harry John Johnson was born March 13, 1929 in Marathon, the son of Cecil and Iris (Essick) Johnson. As an infant he was baptized. Growing up, he attended country school at Marathon. Following school, his family moved to the Jordan farm, near Fonda.
On Feb. 7, 1951, Harry was united in marriage to Myrna Just in Sac City. Together, they were blessed with three children: Kathi, Deb, and Ken. Harry started farming and then later moved to town and worked as a janitor for the Fonda School. He was also a machinist at Nobles and Mefferds in Laurens.
Harry was a caretaker of the Cedar Cemetery in Fonda. He enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting in his earlier years. He loved feeding the squirrels outside of his home and he always had candy stashed away. Harry treasured his family, especially his grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Kathi (Bob) Galloway of Budd Lake, N.J.; Deb (Bob) Davis of Spencer; Ken (Stacy) Johnson of Rockwell City; grandchildren: Heidi, Joe and Amy Galloway; Ben and Brian Davis; Colin Johnson; three great-grandchildren: Caleb, Carter and Kaylee Puckhaber; sister, Dorothy Hout of Sac City; extended family and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Iris Johnson; wife, Myrna; brothers, Allen and Darrel; sister, Elnora Larson; and two grandchildren, Bobby Galloway and Michael Johnson.
