Leota "Lee" Raymond
Leota M. "Lee" Raymond, 77, of Show Low, Ariz. died Feb. 3, 2012 at the Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Ariz. unexpectedly due to a medical condition. Services were held on Feb. 17th in a chapel at the Fort Logan National Cemetery (Staging Area B). Funeral services were officiated by John Holland, Chaplin for the National VFW. Internment was at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Englewood, Colo.
Lee Raymond was born May 13, 1934 in Marathon, to Leo H. and Ruby (Hutchinson) Meyer. She spent her early years in the Storm Lake area where she was married to LaVerne Leon Schossow (deceased). They were blessed with three daughters and one son: Lenona, LaVerne "Skip," LaVonne, and LuAnn. She was also blessed with another daughter, Michele Nielson. She later moved to Broomfield, Colo. in 1968, where she resided for 40 years before moving to Show Low, Ariz. in early 2009. She married Douglas Raymond on Dec. 16, 1987 and was married to him for the last 24 years.
Lee was a Charter member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary Post 9565 in Broomfield, Colo. since 1968. She served as State Auxiliary President from 1996-1997, and in various other capacities within her Post, including Auxiliary President. Her favorite pastime was performing with the VFW Women's Auxiliary Color Guard. She also enjoyed traveling across the United States in their motorhome. In her earlier years she bowled on several different bowling leagues in Broomfield, Colo. She had a passion for reading and enjoyed using her new Kindle.
Lee is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Raymond of Show Low, Ariz.; four daughters: Lenona Raymond of Aurora, Colo.; LaVerne "Skip" (Sheila) Schossow of Sioux City; LaVonne Gissal of Brookfield, Wisc.; LuAnn (Michael)Wineinger of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Michele Nielson of Pueblo, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, two nieces; Sandy (Rick) Anderson of Spencer, and Sharon (Stephen) Cooper of Battle Creek, Mich. and two nephews; Silas Chalfant of Lakeland, Fla. and Paul Chalfant of Battle Creek, Mich.
Lee was preceded in death by her parents Leo H. and Ruby Meyer; her sister, Wilma (Chalfant) Meyer; brother-in-law, Don Chalfant; a son-in-law, Richard Raymond.
