Young area wrestlers on to AAU State

On Sunday, Feb. 5, many area wrestlers in grades third-eighth grade headed to Spencer to compete at AAU Districts and to try to qualify for the AAU State Wrestling tournament. Across the state there are eight districts and the top four wrestlers in each weight and class qualify to compete at state in a 32-man bracket. The wrestlers that placed in the top four and are advancing to to state include:

* First place - Kole Weigert, Storm Lake, - A100 (two-time state qualifier)

* First place - Cobe Siebrecht, Alta - B65 (four-time state qualifier)

* Second place - Cooper Siebrecht, Alta - B70 (four-time state qualifier)

* First place - Tyler Gaes, Aurelia - B95

* First place -Tyler Zeimen, Cherokee - B115 (three-time state qualifier)

* Third place - Colten Larson, Alta - C85

* Third place - Skylar Solko, Aurelia - C100 (five-time state qualifier)

* First place - John Tuttle, Aurelia - C105 (three-time state qualifier)

* Third place - Parker Meier, Storm Lake - C115

Wrestlers in the A division represent third and fourth graders, B division are in fifth and sixth grade and C division are in seventh and eighth grade.

These wrestlers have been practicing together in the 2011-12 season, primarily in Alta and Aurelia. The wrestlers will compete at the AAU State tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26.

Cade Siebrecht, second grade, will be competing at the Super Pee Wee State Wrestling Tournament (for grades kindergarten-second grade) on Sunday, March 4.
