Richard D. Wessendorf

Richard D. Wessendorf, 77, of Sioux City, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center here in Sioux City. A prayer Service was Monday, Feb. 20, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes with Rev. Harold Werley officiating.

Richard was born Dec. 31, 1934 at Storm Lake, the son of George and Ruth (Morgan) Wessendorf. He grew up and attended school in Nemaha, graduating from Nemaha High School. Richard married Betty Lauer on June 9, 1957. Together they made their home in Fort Dodge, and in 1971 moved to the Sioux City area. Richard sold used cars. He owned and operated Dick's Kar Korner in South Sioux City, Neb.

Richard enjoyed watching Nascar, fishing, guns and collecting pens.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Sioux City; his sons, Randy (Jody) Wessendorf of Sioux City, and Jeffrey (Kim) Wessendorf of South Sioux City, Neb.; three grandchildren: Brandon Wessendorf of Sgt. Bluff; Kristi Wessendorf of Sioux City; and Richie Wessendorf of Sioux City. Two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Thyan. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald (Sandy) Wessendorf of Creighton, Neb.; John (Kathy) Wessendorf of Zumbroda, Minn.; and sister Sue Wessendorf of Schaller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Brenda; great-granddaughter, Taylen; one brother, Larry and a sister, Janet.
