If funding is approved by the Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors, BV County Conservation Park in Linn Grove could soon receive $250,000 of upgrades over the next few years.
Conservation director Nate Young displayed plans during the BV County Board of Supervisors meeting Feb. 14. "We plan on it being a two-year project," he said. "It's not something that will get done overnight."
The Supervisors have yet to finalize $200,000 of funding. Once approved, the conservation board plans to chip in $50,000, which will be generated by land acquisition trust funds or grants.
No exact date has been set for construction. "Provided everything goes through, we should be able to begin construction this spring," he explained.
The new campground will be constructed at a different area, since there is not enough room for expansion of the current 18-site campground.
Upgrades include two handicap accessible cabins, 17 camping sites with electrical and water hookups and new shower/restroom facilities.
Sites will be approximately 25 feet apart. "We didn't want to design a campground with people on top of each other," Young said.
County conservation officials are considering a campground addition to Gabrielson Park in Sioux Rapids, but a campground study needs to be conducted first. The study is set to begin after the new fiscal year begins in July.
A piling project is currently underway to drain Gabrielson Park, and should take care of any future issues, Young said. The project is expected to wrap up by this winter.
