Storm Lake Art Instructors Jessica Huss and Libby Whyte, in conjuction with Buena Vista University Art Departments, are proud to announce the accepted works for the 2012 Western Iowa Salon Exhibit (WISE).

The show is open to high school students (grades 9-12) in western Iowa, eastern South Dakota, eastern Nebraska and southern Minnesota. Any media/medium is accepted. This is a juried process--not everything submitted may be selected for display. The juror for the 2012 Western Iowa Salon Exhibition (WISE) is Eric Ouren. Ouren, Professor of Art at Bethany Lutheran College, primarily teaches courses in sculpture, ceramics, art history and criticism. He chose 89 works out of 180 from 15 different schools. Of the chosen works, 30 are from Storm Lake.

A free public reception will be held for the exhibition on Saturday, March 10 at BVU Art Gallery from 2-4 p.m. and the awards presentation at 3 p.m. with refreshments being served.

Top Awards and prizes include: $300 for Best of Show, $200 for First, $100 for Second Juror's Choice Awards.

BVU fine art scholarships ($2,000; $500/year) will also be awarded by the Art & Graphic Design faculty.

Huss states, "Last year SLHS Art rocked the 2011 WISE, with Best of Show and multiple Juror's Choice Awards, and we predict a successful turn out for 2012 WISE!"
