Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the West Bend Cemetery in West Bend. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday, Feb. 4. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Irene Mikes, the daughter of Adolph and Josephine (Cink) Mikes, was born in West Bend, on Oct. 6, 1916. She lived her youth and received her education at West Bend, graduating from the West Bend High School. Irene continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Nutrition. She served in the American Red Cross during World War II at Camp Mystic Missouri and Camp Crowder Texas. Following the war, she was a law librarian at Drake University in Des Moines.
On Sept. 9, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Gordon Jackson and this union was blessed with three children: Tom, Jill, and Scott. Irene was a longtime member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church of Storm Lake.
Irene's life will always be honored and cherished by her children: Tom and his wife, Kathie of Columbia, Mo.; Jill Johnson and her husband, Bill of Holyoke, Colo.; Scott of Lake City; granddaughters: Wendy (Trevor) Hamilton of Morristown, N.J.; Amy (Matt) Symes of Las Vegas, Nev.; two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Avery Hamilton of Morristown, N.J.; other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon in 1961; 5 brothers: Frank, Leo, Paul, Roman, and Harold Mikes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
