William Donald Hertz of Storm Lake, and formerly of Laurens, passed away on Jan. 1, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Laurens with the Rev. Tim Walker serving as the officiant. Interment will be held in the Laurens Cemetery.
William Donald Hertz was born May 27, 1970 in Sioux City. He was the son of Donald and Grace (Fletcher) Hertz. Bill graduated from Laurens-Marathon High School in 1988. While he was in high school, he pursued extracurricular interests in speech and music. He was recognized for his talents by being selected for All-State Speech. He was also honored to be selected to be in the Iowa High School All-State Music Festival Chorus for three years and was a member of the Iowa State Fair Singers during the summer of 1988. In recent years, Bill has been employed as a professional musician.
Bill married Vicki Stroud in December 1990; they were later divorced. They were the parents of Tiffany, Clif and Jamie.
He is survived by his children, Tiffany (Joe) Roenfeldt of Marshalltown, Clif (Tessa) Rubicam of Stout, and Jamie Hertz of Ames; four grandchildren, Cayden, Kendra, Anabelle and Noah; his parents, Don and Grace Hertz of Laurens; his sister, Deborah (Todd) Wingler of Scottsdale, Ariz. and their two children, Gabrielle and Grace as well as numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends. Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Amos and Helen Hertz, Harry Fletcher and Mary Frances "Polly" Kihlstrom.
Bill's family and friends were very special to him; he always remembered family birthdays and anniversaries.
