Reinhold Bode, age 85, of Schaller, died Dec. 30, 2011 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Burial was in the Schaller Cemetery with full Military Rites by the Schaller VFW. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller was in charge of the arrangements.

Herman Reinhold was born Feb. 5, 1926 in Germantown, the son of Paul and Anna (Trojahn) Bode. As an infant, he was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Germantown and later confirmed in 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller.

At the age of three, he came to Schaller with his parents, where his father was employed as a blacksmith.

Growing up, Reinhold attended school in Schaller where he graduated from the Schaller High School.

Reinhold enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and attended Airplane Mechanic Schools specializing in A-26 Bombers and 3350 engines. Half of his 36 months service time was spent in Europe with the 11th Troop Carrier Squadron, and he took part in the Berlin Airlift. After an honorable discharge, he returned home and spent the next few years happily as a farm laborer.

On Feb. 18, 1951 Reinhold was united in marriage to Marion Williamson at the Lutheran parsonage in Schaller. Together, they were blessed with two children: Lynn and Steven. They lived briefly in Alta and Sac City and then returned to Schaller in 1954.

Reinhold worked for Walter Mohler at the Schaller Oil Company and in 1971 he purchased the business, renaming it Bodes Service. He retired in 1988 and his son, Steven purchased the business.

Reinhold had many interests and through the years he was very active in the community. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller where he held various offices. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and stamp collecting. Reinhold loved his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marion Bode of Schaller; children: Lynn (Loren) Wittmeier of Pleasant Hill; Steven (Lorna) Bode of Schaller; grandchildren: Michael (Linda) Brennan of Des Moines; Erik Johnson of Des Moines; Jeff Johnson of Des Moines; Traci (Barry) Determan of Belton, Mo.; Brian Bode of Schaller; Becki (Nathan) Petersen of Early; great-grandchild, Ashlie Determan; brothers: Herb (Maxine) Bode of Clitherall, Minn.; Ray Bode of Fergus Falls, Minn.; sister-in-law, Jeana Bode Hansen; stepbrothers: Dale (Marlene) Nagel; Vernon (Becky) Nagel; extended family and many friends.

Reinhold was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Bode Nagel; father, Paul Bode; stepfather, Otto Nagel; brother, Frank Bode; sister-in-law, Leota Bode; son-in-law, Lowell Johnson.
