David Lindgren, age 63, of Schaller, died Dec. 28, 2011 at his home in Schaller.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Burial was in the Schaller Cemetery with full Military Rites by the Schaller VFW. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller was in charge of the arrangements.
David Charles was born March 23, 1948 in Odebolt, the son of Iver and Marjorie (Skarin) Lindgren. He was baptized at the Emmanuel Reform Church of Christ where he was later confirmed.
Growing up, he attended Hayes Township and graduated from Schaller Community School in 1966. Following high school graduation, David attended Iowa Central Community College where he graduated with a degree in Automotive in 1968.
On Jan. 6, 1969, David enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 2, 1971.
On July 4, 1974, David was united in marriage to Cathy Carlberg in Newell. Together, they were blessed with two children: Taesa and Brandon. On Aug. 30, 1980, David was united in marriage to Barbara (Adams) Lindgren in Schaller. Together, they were blessed with three children: Kimberly, Stephanie, and Daniel.
David loved attending and watching volleyball games. In 2009, he was recognized at the High School Girls Volleyball Tournament as a model of sportsmanship and decorum for Schaller-Crestland High School and its community.
David enjoyed fishing, gardening, and scroll saw woodworking. After retiring, he enjoyed working at Precision Soya. David loved spending time with his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include Barbara Lindgren of Schaller; children: Taesa (Scott) Bailey of Schaller; Brandon Lindgren of Tucson, Ariz.; Kimberly Sorensen of Sac City; Stephanie (Mike) Wandrey of Schaller; Daniel (friend, Tasey Graeber) Lindgren of Schaller; grandchildren: Brooke Lindgren and Samantha Bailey of Schaller; Ethan and Tatum Sorensen of Sac City; Jordan Grothe, Abigail and Claire Wandrey of Schaller; Tasen and Analise Lindgren of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Marlys (Dennis) Davis of Tijeras, N.M.; sister-in-law, Diane (Jim) Voss of Ames; nephews: Steve Altmanshofer of McCall, Idaho; Chris Voss of Chicago, Ill.; niece, Jaime Hill of Papillion, Neb.; extended family and many friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Iver and Marjorie Lindgren; sisters: Janice Altmanshofer and Audrey Lindgren.
