Kathleen "Kate" Vanderhoff, age 46, of Linn Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Riverside Church in Linn Grove. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Kathleen "Kate" Babb was born April 2, 1965 in Moorehead, Minn. the daughter of Hal and Karen (Cook) Babb. Growing up, Kate was baptized at the Methodist Church in Bruce, S.D. in 1971 and later she was confirmed at the Congregational Church in Bryant, S.D. in 1979. She attended school in South Dakota where she graduated from Hamlin High School in 1984.

On Nov. 11, 1994 Kate was united in marriage to James "Jim" Vanderhoff in Newell.

Kate was a volunteer for the Special Youth Challenged. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, crafts and craft shows. Kate loved being outdoors, especially four wheeling, hunting and fishing. She had a love for animals and treasured horses and bird watching. Kate loved her family and spending time with grandchildren and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James "Jim" Vanderhoff of Linn Grove; parents: Karen and Dennis Forthman of Carthage, S.D.; Hal and Audrey Babb of Plentywood, Mont.; mother-in-law, Ethel Crowley of Newell; stepchildren: Jason (Michele) Vanderhoff of Newell; Jennifer (Kurt) Kruse of Newell; Jodi (Alex) Rojas of Fonda; grandchildren: Jaron and Jaicee Vanderhoff; Chelsee and Reed Kruse; Maggie, R.J., and A.J. Rojas; sister, Pam (Brian) Palmer of Mesa, Ariz.; stepsister, Cindi (Brent) Hurst of Montana; brother-in-law, Jack (Karla) Vanderhoff of Newell; sisters-in-law: Joyce (Dana) Haahr of Newell; Jan (Mike) Dick of Storm Lake; nephew, Tristan Palmer of Mesa, Ariz.; great nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.

Kate was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; father-in-law, Vernerd "Bud" Vanderhoff.
