Born July 21, 1945, in Pontiac, Mich., Kathleen Marie (Courtney) Wattier was the daughter of John "Joe" and Edna (Dailey) Courtney. She grew up and received her education in Michigan, graduating from Lake Orion High School in 1963.
Kathy worked in management for St. Mary's Hospital in Pontiac, Mich., for several years. She met and later, on March 16, 1974, married Michael Wattier in Lake Orion, Mich. The couple made their home on a farm in the Nemaha area, and they were blessed with three children, Kimberly, Michael, and Courtney.
Kathy will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who supported her children in all their activities and school functions, never missing a ballgame or concert. She was an active partner in Wattier Agriculture, Inc. She possessed a unique sense of humor and had great fun with her lady friends in the "Purple Panties Club." Kathy was an avid reader with a special interest in mysteries and crime novels. Pool parties, antiquing, and shopping getaways with her friends were favorite pastimes. Her greatest joy was found in spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She was a spontaneous traveler and enjoyed taking last-minute trips in her Tahoe to visit her family members. Kathy was proud of her Irish heritage and took delight in the beloved family dog, Ruby.
Survivors include her husband, Mike; three children, Kimberly Wattier of Cottage Grove, Wisc., Michael (Lynn) Wattier of Urbandale, and Courtney Wattier of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren, Jack and Ava Wattier; a brother, Jack (Donnie) Courtney of Commerce Township, Mich.; a sister, JoAnne Kirby of Hartland, Mich.; as well as many other extended family members and a host of friends.
