On Monday, Nov. 14, at the KC Hall, funds were distributed to four different charities in Storm Lake as a part of the 2011 Drive for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities conducted by the Storm Lake Knights of Columbus. Faith, Hope and Charity, Genesis Development, Storm Lake Special Education and Storm Lake Special Olympics each received checks for $1,133.56, which was the most distributed in several years. An additional $503.81 was also sent to the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities Fund managed by the Iowa State Council of the Knights of Columbus, which has routinely distributed additional funds to Faith, Hope and Charity and Genesis Development.

Funds were raised through an omelette breakfast, a silent auction, distribution of Tootsie Tolls and a mailing campaign. The total net revenue raised was in the amount of $5,038.06.

The honorary chairman of the drive was Buena Vista Beavers Baseball Head Coach Steve Eddie, who also shared this job with his team. Several Beaver players, along with Steve and his assistant coach Steve Sonka were serving omelettes at the omelette breakfast on September 24.
