Roger "Genie" Crum

Roger "Genie" Crum, age 68, of Schaller, died Nov. 10, 2011 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery with military rites by the Schaller VFW. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Roger was born Dec. 22, 1942 to Eugene and Rosella (Sharkey) Crum in Ida Grove. Growing up he attended school in Ida Grove where he received his education.

Roger served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged.

On Dec. 24, 1969 Roger was united in marriage to Lois Sammons in Elk Point, S.D. This union was blessed with two children: Jean and Rachael.

Roger worked road construction for many years before retiring. He enjoyed auctions and working with iron. Roger cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lois Crum of Schaller; children: Jean Crum of Schaller; and Rachael Crum of Schaller; grandchildren: Tyler Crum and Ivy Crum; brother, Stanley (Marlene) Crum of Holstein; twin sister, Dolly (Urban) Tripp of Kiron; half brothers Paul (Carolee) Franzkowiak of Schaller; and Mark (Mary Lou) Franzkowiak of Schaller; half sister, Donna (Jim) Kay of Holstein; extended family and many friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Crum; step-father, Frank Franzkowiak; brother, Steven Crum; sister-in-law, Linda Wendt; three nephews and one niece.
