Gerard "Jerry" Brungardt, age 71, of Storm Lake, died Nov. 4, 2011 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Visitation will take place Monday, Nov. 7, from 2-8 p.m. with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. all at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk, Neb. with a visitation starting at 12 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake along with Home for Funerals in Norfolk are in charge of the arrangements.
Jerry was born Feb. 6, 1940 in Salina, Kan. the son of Dr. Balthazar and Margaret (Schwerman) Brungardt. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, Kan.
Growing up, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Salina where he graduated in 1958. During his high school years, he was very involved in church activities and was President of the Catholic Youth Club for two years. He was an outstanding basketball player and captain of the state championship team his senior year. During the summers, Jerry enjoyed working on the farm with his brothers, and racing cars.
Following high school, he attended St. Benedict College in Atchison, Kan.
Jerry was married to Michaela Berberich and together they were blessed with five sons: Tim, Jerry, Mike, Tom, and Jim. On Feb. 27, 1997, Jerry was united in marriage to Geneva Suppes in Glenwood.
Jerry's five sons were his true joy in life. Attending their athletic events always took priority. He loved being with them on hunting and fishing trips and also loved boating together. His passion was teaching his boys how to conquer fear and how to succeed in life.
At work, Jerry was the top pharmaceutical sales representative in the country, working in the field for over 30 years.
Jerry always made time for everyone who needed help, reassurance, or just a little guidance with a bump in the road of their own life journey. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Geneva Brungardt of Storm Lake; Tim (Julie) Brungardt of Norfolk, Neb.; Jerry Brungardt of Norfolk, Neb.; Mike (Cathy) Brungardt of Storm Lake; Tom (Jennifer) Brungardt of Norfolk, Neb.; Jim (Jenny) Brungardt of Ankeny; grandchildren: Mark (Aimee) Brungardt; Greg (Jayln) Brungardt; Nicole Brungardt; Kayleigh and Kara Brungardt; Hannah Anderson; Michaela, Jacqueline, and Rachel Brungardt; Kylie, Nate, and Allison Brungardt; Ashlyn, and Ryan Brungardt; brothers: Reverend Al Brungardt of Junction City, Kan.; Michael (Mary) Brungardt of Baldwin, Kan.; Paul (Marg) Brungardt of Battle Creek, Neb.; Anthony Brungardt of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Clare (Ray) Hoeffer of Longview, Texas; extended family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Balthazer and Margaret Brungardt; brothers: Dr. Bernard, Dr. Tom, Francis "Dutch", Dr. Joe, and Bill Brungardt; sisters: Mary Buser, Agnes McDowell, Maude Hart, Theresa Taquino, Ann Dimitry, Zita Monica, and Katie Linenberger.
