"The Fiery Trial: Iowa and the Civil War" traveling exhibit is coming to Storm Lake Nov. 10-12. the 32-foot trailer will be located at the Buena Vista County Historical Museum at 214 West 5th. The display hours Thursday are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
The exhibit was put together by the State Historical Society of Iowa and commemorates the sacrifices Iowans made during the Civil War 150 years ago.
"The Fiery Trial" includes Iowa's participation in the War and the impact of the War on Iowa. The on-board computer program allows visitors to research Civil War ancestors.
Iowans have made major contributions to U.S. history. During the Civil War 75,000 volunteers from Iowa took part in major campaigns, with over 13,000 dying either from wounds or from disease. Students of history of all ages are welcome to tour the exhibit.
The public is invited to the Buena Vista County Historical Society's Veterans Day soup and pie dinner Saturday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Museum. Pie and coffee will be available during the afternoon.
