Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda was in charge of the arrangements.
Henry "Hank" August Staiert was born Sept. 5, 1920 in rural Carroll County, to John and Anna (Niehaus) Staiert. He attended country school and St. Francis Catholic School in Maple River.
During World War II, Hank enlisted in the Navy and served his country aboard the Charles F. Hughes destroyer ship. After his honorable discharge in 1945, Hank returned home and began farming.
On Feb. 12, 1946 he was married to Genevieve Pudenz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn. They made their home in Breda, where they farmed until 1966, when they moved to a farm near Fonda. They were blessed with seven children Kenneth, Dale, Kathleen, Thomas, Dennis, Terry and Sandra.
Hank was a life-long farmer who enjoyed a hard day's work, but never was too busy to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and faithful member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2064 in Fonda. Hank cherished the time he could spend with his family and will be deeply missed by them.
