Chargers rebound, top #8 Kingsley-Pierson

Friday, October 7, 2011

LAURENS - A week after falling 7th-ranked and unbeaten Newell-Fonda, the Laurens-Marathon football team rebounded in a big way Friday night, taking down 8th-ranked and previously undefeated Kingsley-Pierson, 28-22.

Both teams found yards hard to come by as K-P outgained the Chargers 336-283, but the Laurens-Marathon defense held when it mattered as they held the Panthers 30 points under their season average.

Charger quarterback Alex Runneberg completed 8-of-15 passing attempts for 146 yards and three touchdowns Friday and added another 59 yards rushing. Justin DaSilva carried 21 times for 62 yards and TD, Matt Cleveland had three grabs for 84 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yarder. Will Cleveland had two catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Collin Lind had nine stops, Jake Simpson had seven, Austin Hanson and Will Cleveland had six, and Matt Cleveland had five.

Laurens-Marathon improves to 4-3 with the win and 3-1 in District play, leaving them in a three-way tie with the K-P and Remsen-Union. Newell-Fonda sits atop the District at 6-0 and 4-0 in league play with three weeks remaining.
