Wayne Kenneth Wrede, age 89, of Alta, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Methodist Manor of Storm Lake. A funeral service was held on Monday, July 18, at St. Mark Lutheran Church of Storm Lake with Rev. Connie Spitzack officiating. Burial was at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery of rural Alta. The Nicklas D Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne was born on Dec. 28, 1921 at his family's farm 8 1/2 miles south of Alta, to Herman and Emma Wrede. He was born on the 3rd birthday of twin sisters, Luverne and Lorene.

He was baptized Jan. 12,1922 and confirmed March 31, 1936 at St Johns Lutheran Church of Hanover. He attended rural elementary school in the Hanover community. He graduated from Alta High School in 1940.

Wayne married Geneva L Juergens on May 7, 1944. They had 4 children: Dennis, Dale and Diane (twins), and Gary. In the 44 years of Wayne and Geneva's loving marriage, they enjoyed their families, friends, farming, and the Hanover community.

Wayne was "grounded" on the farm. He spent most of his life tilling the soil and looking forward to harvest. He felt most comfortable on wheels. He loved to drive the tractor, the lawn mower, and the car. On his road trips, he saw oceans, forests, and mountains, but his heart and home were always at the farmlands of Iowa. He called his field of green oats waving in the wind, his "sea of green."

Following the death of his wife, Geneva, on Nov. 13, 1988, he met and later married Betty Cone of Alta, on Aug. 25, 1990. They had 19 years together until her death on Aug. 26, 2009. Betty's quick wit and loving heart brought the extended families together.

Wayne loved fishing, hunting, dancing, several sports and playing cards with family and friends. Most of all, he will be remembered for being a man who loved his family and strongly believed in being part of their daily lives.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Luverne (Lietz), and his wives, Geneva and Betty and Betty's son, Tom Kone.

Wayne is survived by his sister Lorene Heimsoth (Storm Lake), his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Willie Wrede (Brandon, S.D.), his son and daughter -in-law, Dale and Lidia Wrede (Corpus Christi, TX), his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bob Peterson (Mankato, Minn.), his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Deb Wrede (Tiffin), all his loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He is also survived by the children of Betty: daughter and her husband, Linda and Dennis Brechwald (Spencer), and her son and his wife, Marlin and Linda Cone (Weatherby Lake, Mo.), and a daughter-in-law, Susan Kone of Washington.
