Graveside services for Pamela Sue Nielsen, 60, of Champaign, Ill., will be Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia with Pastor Missy Brown officiating. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Pamela Sue Nielsen was born Oct. 18, 1950, in Cherokee, to Dr. Dale and Shirley (Robinson) Nielsen. She was the granddaughter of Albert and Elvina Nielsen and Lee and Opal Robinson. Pam graduated from the Sibley High School in 1969. She went on to earn a BA in Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973, her MA in Education from the University of Arizona, and her MA in Reading for the University of Illinois. Pam has worked as an educator on the Tohono O'dham Indian Reservation outside of Tucson, Ariz., in the Walcott School District in Iowa, and in American schools in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and Mexico City, Mexico.
Pam died on May 5, 2011, at her home in Champaign, IL.
Preceding Pam in death were her parents, one sister, Darcy Leigh Nielsen, and her grandparents.
Survivors include two sisters, Jill Newelle Nielsen of Rochester, MI, and Dee and her husband Jim Gerot of Ottumwa, two nieces, Amand Gerot of Coralville, and Sara Gerot of Ottumwa and her two children, Faith and Hayzen, and other relatives and friends.
