Esther L. Lake, 90, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at her home north of Lytton. Services were Monday, June 13, at Emanuel -- St. John Lutheran Church, Lytton, with Pastor John Sersland officiating. Burial was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Lytton. The Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be left to Emanuel -- St. John Lutheran Church.
Esther is survived by her children, David (Marlene) Lake of Guthrie Center, Janet (Mark) Talbott of Rockwell City, and Don (Guilan) Lake of Guthrie Center; 4 grandchildren, Shelly Talbott, Jeff (Stacy) Talbott, and their children, SaraJo and Jewel, all of Lytton, Jacob (Jennifer) Lake and their son Robbie, and Ahna Lake and her son Karsyn, all of Guthrie Center; and sister-in-law Karen Rix of Manson. She was preceded in death by her husband Jake; parents, Henry Jr. and Hulda Scharn Rix; and brother Arnold Rix.
Esther Luella Rix Lake was born May 27, 1921 on the family farm north of Lytton. She attended country schools. On June 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Jacob Lake at Emanuel -- St. John Lutheran Church, Lytton. Esther lived on the family farm for all her life. The family farm was honored with the Century Farm award in 1976. Jake passed away in 1992. Esther was an active member of Emanuel - St. John Lutheran Church, Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, funeral lunch coordinator for over 50 years, Ruth Circle, Lytton Legion Auxiliary, and the Do-Days Quilters.
