Mary Flanigan, age 77, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, June 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Mary Agnes was born Dec. 9, 1933 at her home in Early, to Lawrence and Mary (Drey) O'Leary. She was baptized at the Sacred Heart Church in Early. Growing up Mary attended grade school in Early and graduated from Truesdale High School in Truesdale.

On Feb. 16, 1953 she was united in marriage to James E. Flanigan at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. This union was blessed with nine children: Barbara, Peg, Cindy, Mike, Colleen, Malinda, Dan, Jeffrey and Bradley.

Mary worked as a homemaker and for Buena Vista University dining services, Sodexo. Some of her favorite pastimes included: reading, crocheting, and watching western movies. Mary had a passion for traveling and enjoyed attending sporting events.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her children: Barbara (Dave) Hansen of Storm Lake; Peg (Robert) Lenz of Rockwell City; Cindy (Dave) Garberding of Albert City; Mike (Georgia) Flanigan of Storm Lake; Colleen (Brian) Schwanz of Alta; Malinda (Jim) Stein of Kansas City, Mo.; Dan (Amy) Flanigan of Springdale, Ark.; Jeffrey (Michelle) Flanigan of Andover, Kan.; and Bradley (Amie) Flanigan of Gretna, Neb.; grandchildren: Terrin Hansen; Jace Hansen; Will Hansen; Cole Lenz; Riley Lenz; Brian Garberding; Kelli Garberding (Olson); Katie Flanigan; Abraham Flanigan; Wyatt Svendsen; Keegan Svendsen; Dallas Nelson; Kylie Nelson; Torin Flanigan; Hayley Flanigan; Hunter Flanigan; Makayla Flanigan; Paige Flanigan; and Keldy Flanigan; great-grandchildren: Emma Grace and Olivia Hansen; Evrie Olson; Brenna Garberding; and Tilman Bern; sister, Linda (Carl) Roxberg of Waverly; brothers: John (Mary) O'Leary of Storm Lake; and Larry (Phyllis) O'Leary of Springfield, Mo.; extended family and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James; grandson, Keldon Flanigan; parents, Lawrence and Mary O'Leary; infant sister, Patricia O'Leary; and special friend, Richard Andrews.
