SL juvenile charged after trying to play prank on parent

* On Thursday, May 19, at approximately 9:15 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department took a report at the Storm Lake High School of an alleged assault.

The reporting party told police that on Tuesday, May 17, during a construction class he was reportedly struck in the stomach by another student with a sledge hammer.

Police conducted an investigation and allege that the reporting party identified as a 16-year-old male of Storm Lake, fabricated the story in order to play a joke on his parent.

Police charged the juvenile with False Police Report (serious misdemeanor). He was processed and released to school officials pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

Two arrested after fight at high school

* On Thursday, May 19, at approximately 12:40 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake High School in reference to a fight between two students.

Upon arrival of police they met with school officials and learned that two students had allegedly engaged in a fight following some on-going harassment incidents.

Police investigated the incident and subsequently charged a 16 year old female of Storm Lake with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). She was processed and released to her parent pending a court date.

The arrested 16 year old also received injuries during the fight which did not require medical attention.

Police further arrested an 18-year-old female of Storm Lake and charged her with Assault Causing Bodily Injury (serious misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,300 cash bond.

Three arrested for selling magazines door to door without permit

* On Thursday, May 19, at approximately 4:57 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of Lochedem Drive in reference to persons illegally soliciting door-to-door.

Upon arrival police met with the reporting party who advised that a subject going door-to-door and utilizing a suspicious selling technique was allegedly attempting to sell magazines without a solicitor's license.

Police investigated the incident and arrested David Lee Mundy, age 31 of Harlan, formerly of Florida and Ohio. He was charged with Soliciting Without a Permit 1st Offense.

Police located two more alleged solicitors in the 1500 block of West 5th Street and identified them as Christopher Johnson, age 19 of Show Low, Ariz. and Jessica Nelson, age 23 of Chandler, Ariz. Police subsequently charged both of these persons with Soliciting Without a Permit 1st Offense.

All three were cited and released pending a court date.

Three men arrested for becoming unruly at local bar

* On Friday, May 20, at approximately 12:30 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Mo's Bar on Lake Avenue in reference to a report of several unruly persons in the bar.

Upon arrival of police they were advised that the three men had departed the establishment prior to the arrival of police.

Police located two of the subjects identified as Darrell Flesher, age 47 and Travis Flesher, age 22 both of Knoxville, near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue. Police allege both men were intoxicated and arrested them.

A third person identified as Jason Schraber, age 22 of Dallas, was located at the Super 8 Motel and taken into custody.

Following an investigation police charged all three men with Public Intoxication. All three men were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond each.

Seven arrested after fight Wednesday night

* Storm Lake Police report six people were arrested at a fight on Seneca Street late Wednesday night.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, Storm Lake Police were dispatched to 1409 North Seneca Street in reference to a fight in progress.

Upon arrival of police they encountered several people on the north side of the apartment complex. Several people attempted to flee but were apprehended by police. Others were located hiding in a parked vehicle.

Following an investigation police allege that a fight had occurred and arrested the following.

Dual Jock, age 19 of Storm Lake was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 cash bond.

Nyakueth Makuach, age 18 of Omaha, Neb. was charged with Public Intoxication. She was booked into the county jail on a $300 cash bond.

Keim Reat, age 20 of Worthington, Minn. was charged with Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. He was booked into the county jail on a $600 cash bond.

The following were charged with Possession of Alcohol and released to a parent.

Police are still seeking others who fled from the scene and additional charges are pending.

A 7th arrest was made in connection with the reported fight which occurred Wednesday night on North Seneca St.

At 11:30 a.m. on May 19, Storm Lake Police arrested Lul Dak Chak, age 19, of Des Moines, after he surrendered himself at the Storm Lake Police Station. Chak was charged with Interference With Official Acts and Disorderly Conduct. He was booked in the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 cash bond.

The incident remains under investigation.

SL man arrested for two assault charges

* On Wednesday, May 18, at approximately 9:58 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department took a report of multiple domestic assaults.

Police were told by the victim that she was allegedly physically assaulted on two occasions on Tuesday, May 10, by Juan Carranza, age 38 of Storm Lake. The assaults took place at a residence at 602C West 8th Street.

Following an investigation police located Carranza and arrested him. During his arrest police allege they located a small amount of cocaine in Carranza's possession which was seized by officers.

Police charged Carranza with 2 counts of Domestic Assault and Possession of Cocaine. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

Alta woman arrested for harassment at Hy-Vee

* On Wednesday, May 18, at approximately 6:33 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Hy-Vee Store in reference to a reported harassment.

Upon arrival of police they spoke to multiple witnesses who allege a woman later identified as Helen Maloy, age 67 of Alta, harassed a couple in the check-out line in the store and again in the parking lot of the business.

Following an investigation police arrested Maloy and charged her with Disorderly Conduct and Harassment. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail where she was released after posting a $600 cash bond.

SL man arrested for selling marijuana at BVU

* Storm Lake Police made an arrest on Thursday morning in connection with an on-going drug related investigation.

In February of this year police allege they conducted a controlled buy of marijuana on the campus of Buena Vista University. Police allege the subject they purchased the marijuana from is an Anthony Paul Garza, age 19 of Storm Lake.

Storm Lake Police on Thursday morning, May 19, at approximately 7:15 a.m. arrested Garza at the university and charged him with Delivery of Marijuana Within 1000 Feet of a School (class D felony). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

SL man arrested for child abuse after throwing bible at daughter

* On Wednesday, May 18, at approximately 2 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department took a report from the Iowa Department of Human Services in connection with a possible child abuse.

Police were told that a Gilbert Palomares, age 36 of Storm Lake allegedly threw a bible at his 13-year-old daughter during an argument. The book struck the child in the eye causing bruising.

Police conducted an investigation and at approximately 4:30 p.m. located and arrested Palomares at his residence at 221 Seneca Street. Palomares was charged with Child Endangerment Causing Injury (class D felony). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

SL juvenile charged for spray painting graffiti

* On Tuesday, May 16, at approximately 6 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 410 Hudson in reference to a report that a male subject was spray painting graffiti on some trees in the yard of a residence.

Upon arrival of police they located the subject and identified him as a 16-year-old male of Storm Lake. Police were told by witnesses that the juvenile allegedly spray painted what is believed to be gang graffiti on the trunk of two trees at 410 Hudson Street.

Following an investigation police charged the 16-year-old male with Criminal Mischief 5th Degree. He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

Wanted subjects arrested

* On Monday, May 16, at approximately 10:47 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 919 East 5th Street in reference to locate a wanted subject.

Upon arrival of police they located and arrested Theresa Partridge, age 27 of Storm Lake on a warrant charging her with Violation of Probation reference Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Deliver.

Partridge was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

* On Monday, May 16, at approximately 12:40 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to Market Link located at 1407 North Lake Avenue in reference to locate a wanted subject.

Upon arrival of police they located and arrested Mario Jovan Neither, age 26 of Storm Lake on a warrant charging him with Violation of Probation reference Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Neither was booked into the county jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Accidents

* On May 18, at 9:30 a.m. an accident occurred in at 512 W. 7th St. in Storm Lake. An unknown vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Sharon Koch of Storm Lake and left the scene. Damage to the Koch vehicle was estimated at $400.

* On May 15, at approximately 2:35 p.m., at the intersection of Lake Avenue and 10th Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Jeffrey Knutson of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Cecilia Vargas of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $4,500. Knutson was cited for Failure to Yield upon Left turn and Vargas was cited for No Proof of Insurance.

* On May 15, at approximately 7:30 a.m., it was reported that an unknown vehicle, at an unknown date and time, struck a parked vehicle owned by Casimiro Reyes-Olais of Storm Lake in the 200th block of Hudson Street. Damages were estimated at $200.

* On May 15, at approximately 1:31 a.m., in the 1300 block of Lake Avenue in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Kellyn Arnold of Minnetonka, Minn. was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Anastacio Rincon of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1,000. Rincon was cited for Failure to Stop in a Safe and Assured Distance.

* On May 14, at approximately 7 p.m., in the 700th block of W. 8th Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Gilberto Martinez-Vasquez of Storm Lake struck a parked vehicle owned by Fernando Torres-Gonzalez of Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $4,100. Martinez-Vasquez was cited for Unsafe Backing.

* On May 13, at approximately 11:21 p.m., in the 600th block of Erie Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Antonio Vazquez-Herrera of Sioux Center, struck a parked vehicle owned by Victor Bautista of South Sioux City, Neb. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $550. Vazquez-Herrera was cited for Operating While Intoxicated, No Drivers License, and Striking an Unattended Vehicle.

Theft/Vandalism

* Sometime between April 30, and May 2, a burglary occurred at 721A W. 9th St. in Storm Lake. Taken from the residence was miscellaneous electronic equipment with an estimated value of $514.
