Lester V. Carnine, age 95, of Storm Lake, died April 30, 2011 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at the Church of Christ in Alta. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Lester Vernon Carnine was born July 6, 1915 in Newell, the son of Thomas and Cedora (Richeson) Carnine. Growing up, Lester attended grade school in Nemaha, and later graduated from Herbert Hoover in San Diego, Calif. in 1937.

On Sept. 14, 1940, Lester was united in marriage to Phyllis Ellwanger in St. Joseph, Mo. Together, they were blessed with two children: Leslie and Barry.

On Aug. 22, 1944, Lester entered the United States Army where he served his country during World War II until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 4, 1946.

On Oct. 31, 1976, Lester was united in marriage to Genevieve Morris.

Lester was very active in church. He was a charter member of the Alta Church of Christ. He loved family reunions and enjoyed watching college football, especially Penn State.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Leslie (Linda) Carnine of Rogers, Ark.; Barry Carnine of Omaha, Neb.; stepchildren: Pat (Chuck) Boatman; Robert G. Francis of Seabrook, Texas; Trish (Dennis) Niemeier of Galva; grandchildren: Wendy (John) Presson of Wichita Falls, Texas; Thaddeus (Julie) Carnine of Edmond, Okla.; Jodi and Natalie Kincaid of Des Moines; Rachel (Chris) Swales of Readlyn; Michael Niemeier of Spirit Lake; Mark Boatman; Debbie Berger; many great grandchildren; sister, Bertha Dees of San Diego; extended family and friends.

Lester was preceded in death by wife, Phyllis Ellwanger Carnine; wife, Jennie Morris Carnine; parents; brothers: Roy and Louie Carnine; sisters: Agnes Beckfield; Neva Tuttle; and Faye Trickle.
