A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 23, at the United Methodist Church of Storm Lake with the Rev Paula Cripps-Vallejo officiating. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake at a later date. The Nicklas D Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy Mae Herpst was born Nov. 29, 1919 in Lincoln Township, Buena Vista County, to Albert and Nettie (Michaelson) Herpst. She was baptized on Aug. 24, 1924 at Little Sioux Valley Norwegian Evangelical Church. Dorothy attended Highview Consolidated School and Hayes Consolidated School where she graduated in 1937. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 31 years.
Dorothy worked at Ben Franklin, Wallen's Variety Store, JCPenny's, Buena Vista County Treasurer, Methodist Manor and Knight Enterprises. She retired in 1988 and returned to work six years later at the Buena Vista Hospital. Her hobbies included doing crafts and making afghans.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Herpst; sister-in-law, Berniece Herpst and nephew, Alan Herpst.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Albert Herpst Jr. and his wife Patty; nephew and nieces, Gary and Connie Herpst, Laurie and Gary Messerich and Vickie and Marvin Wieck.
