Funeral services were Monday, April 18, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Early. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Early. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Verlyn Clarence was born Aug. 21, 1933 to Clarence and Edna (Christiansen) Miller in Early. Growing up he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Verlyn attended school in Early and was a part of the graduating class of 1951.
On June 27, 1965 he was united in marriage to Ruth James at Faith Lutheran Church in Early. Together they raised their children: Dennis, Gary, Gloria, Dave, Michelle and Mark.
Verlyn worked as a plumber and electrician for many years. He was a volunteer fireman in Early and was an all around helpful man. Verlyn enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time fishing, trapping and hunting. He often went to sales and auctions, and had great knowledge about antique cars. Verlyn spent much of his free time fixing odds and ends and completing crossword puzzles. He cherished his dog, Tippy, who was a great companion to him. Verlyn especially treasured spending time with his family and creating memories with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife, Ruth Miller of Storm Lake; children: Dennis (Sandy) Leonard of Jetersville, Va.; Gary (Audrey) Leonard of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Gloria (Les) Preece of Midland, Texas; Dave (Dianne) Leonard of Storm Lake; Michelle Miller and Lew Boone of Midland, Texas; and Mark (Kristy) Miller of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Michael Leonard; Renee Taylor; Richard Alban; Ross Leonard; Aaron Schuler, Angel Moore; Anthony Peel; Jennifer Hyson; Stephanie Orduno; Jeff Maymon; and Megan Miller; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters: Marlys (James) Dietrich of Emettsburg; extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joyce Markley.
