Maxine B. Zubradt, age 94, of Storm Lake, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Tuesday, April 19 from 5-7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. all at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the Saint Mary's Guild, Knights of Columbus, or BV Hospice.

Maxine Bernice Bucknam was born Aug. 22, 1916 to Fred and Minnie (Betke) Bucknam in Sac City. Growing up she attended school in Sac City and was a member of the graduating class of 1935.

On June 1, 1938 Maxine was united in marriage to L.J. "Pete" Zubradt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. This union was blessed with two children: DeAnn and Paula.

Maxine moved to Storm Lake from Sac City in the summer of 1935 where she worked at various cafés. Maxine and Pete purchased the Avenue Café where they worked together. Maxine later worked for Fitzpatrick's Chevrolet for over seven years and three years served as a school crossing guard. Maxine also spent two years working at the Municipal Golf Course before starting work at Buena Vista College in the food services department.

Maxine enjoyed working on a variety of craft projects and was known for giving gifts of folded dollar bill rings, shirts and bowties. Maxine participated in faith study groups and was a member of St. Mary's Guild. Maxine cherished her faith, family, friends and walking her dogs. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her daughter, Paula (Ted) Neuser of Eldridge; son-in-law, Ed (Jennifer) Bodaken of South Pasadena, Calif.; grandchildren: Matt Bodaken of South Pasadena, Calif.; Amy (Pat) Howe of Carlsbad, Calif.; Chris (Jessica) Bodaken of Pasadena, Calif.; Deb (Paul) Sikorski of Eldridge; Dawnelle (Paul) Middlemiss of Gilbert, Ariz.; six great-grandchildren: Jake, Megan, Dylan, Cody, Allie, and Max; extended grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Matthew, and David (Holly) Cory; other extended family and many friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; daughter, DeAnn Bodaken; two brothers: Harold and George; and sister, Lorene Bucknam.
