Margaret M. Erickson, age 90, of Laurens, died March 22, 2011 at her home in Laurens.

Memorial services were held Friday, March 25, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Burial will was in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City was in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Marie Schoon was born June 3, 1920 to George and Anna (Essing) Schoon in Fonda. She attended grade school and high school in Fonda where she graduated in 1936. After high school Margaret continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, where she earned her teachers certificate at the age of eighteen. Margaret taught in a one room school house near Fonda for many years.

On March 22, 1944, Margaret was united in marriage to Eldon Erickson in Pomeroy. This union was blessed with six children: Joyce, Nancy, Joel, Rodney, Charles and Bradley.

Margaret and Eldon started farming near Marathon. She enjoyed farm life and often spent time on the tractor. She loved to be outdoors and traveling in the winters to Mesa, Ariz. and Phar, Texas. Margaret was a member of card clubs, had a passion for cooking and treasured time she spent with Eldon dancing. Margaret especially cherished spending time with her family, creating everlasting memories.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her children: Joyce (Phil) Westlund of Nampa, Idaho, Nancy Herzenach (Daniel Victor) of Tucson, Ariz., Joel (Barb) Erickson of Fort Dodge, Rodney Erickson of Des Moines, Charles (Vickie) Erickson of Marathon, and Bradley Erickson and Evelyn Anderson of Sioux Rapids; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers: Richard (Cathy) Schoon of Peace Dale, R.I.; William (Pat) Schoon of Madison, Wisc.; and Rudolph (Lois) Schoon of Pomeroy; sister, Helen Hatteberg of Clinton; a sister-in-law: Helen Gross of Lakewood, Colo.; extended family and many friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Gerdes; and sisters, Lucille Faine and Delaphine Windfeldt.
