Ronald W. Simon, 74, of Rockwell City, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Graveside Rites by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. The Palmer & Swank Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ronald is survived by his wife Rosella; children, Patricia Simon of Wagner, S.D.; Debra (Mike) Norris of Omaha, Neb. and Paul Simon of Rockwell City; two granchildren, Ian and Sydney Norris; sister Alice M. Simon of Parker, S.D.; and mother-in-law Ruth Fletchall of Ramona, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Tillie Simon.
Ronald Walter Simon was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Hurley, S.D. He graduated from Parker High School, Parker, S.D., with the class of 1954. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1957. Ronald attended South Dakota State University at Brookings for one year. He then transferred to Dakota State University in Madison, where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor's Degree in History/Social Studies and Science. On June 5, 1960 he was united in marriage to Rosella Fletchall at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison, S.D. Ronald taught school in Holloway, Minn., Butte, Neb., and Linn Grove. He received his Master's Degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. In 1967, they made their home in Rockwell City, where Ronald taught Biology and Chemistry for the Rockwell City/Lytton Schools until his retirement in 1997. The couple enjoyed several winter trip to Florida over the years. Ronald was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and also a member of VFW, and American Legion.
