Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Linda Vegas, the daughter of Ben and Fe (Garzon) Vegas was born in Union City, Calif., on Aug. 14, 1953. She lived her youth and received her education at Newark, Calif.
Linda's life has been blessed with three children: Cheryl, Larry, and Jack. Throughout her lifetime, Linda has resided in Newark, Calif. and she was also a short order cook for George's Catering in San Jose, Calif. She was stricken with a form of dementia ten years ago and came to make her home in Iowa in 2005, For the past four years, she has been a resident of the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Linda's faith was focal point of her life. She loved attending church where she taught Sunday School and also sang in the choir and often performed vocal solos. She had a "green thumb" and her home was always filled with flowers and plants. The testimony and heritage that she leaves with her family is her eternally grateful love of the Lord.
Those who will always love and cherish Linda are her children: Cheryl and John Abbas of Albert City; Larry and Cassie Yartz of Everly; Jack and Tanya Yartz of Marathon; a step daughter: Janelle Littler of Oakland, Calif.; step son: Tom Bais of California; her father, Ben Vegas of California; her grandchildren: Misty Pettit; Emily Yartz; Adam Yartz; Robert, Taylor, and Jenna Abbas; Abraham Abbas; Catilyn Yartz; Ryan Yartz; Preston Rockwell; Jordan Rockwell; Hailey Rockwell; Rafael Rockwell; Kayla, Kendra, and Kandace Bais; her great grandchildren: Angel and Jovonna Pettit; one sister, Judy Cockrum of Modesto, Calif.; four brothers: Jim Vegas of Spencer; Daniel Vegas of Sacramento, Calif.; Rubin Vegas and Tony Vegas both of Hayward, Calif.; other extended family and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and one brother, Ben Jr.
