Melvin Peters, age 81, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at his home in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Peters was born April 25, 1929 in Lake View, the son of Claus and Belle (Jensen) Peters. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Sac City. He attended school in Terrill, Iowa where he graduated.

On Sept. 9, 1946, Melvin entered the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on Aug. 2, 1949.

On June 25, 1950, Melvin was united in marriage to Carol Meyer in Sac City. Together, they were blessed with three children: David, Dennis, and Doug.

Melvin enjoyed being outdoors where he could fish and camp. He loved traveling and square dancing. Melvin treasured his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carol Peters of Storm Lake; children: David (Lori) Peters of Kingsley; Dennis (Margaret) Peters of Parsippany, N.J.; Doug (Joanne) Peters of Newell; grandchildren: Daniel (Rachel) Peters of Richardson, Texas; Christopher (Amanda) Peters of Van Wert, Ohio; Chad Peters of Loveland, Colo.; Michael (Stephanie) Peters of Marcus; Brittany (Dan) Wenrick of Watford City, N.D.; Lindsey Peters of Emmetsburg; four great grandchildren: brothers: Howard Peters of Marshalltown; Lyle Peters of Storm Lake; Donald Peters of Washburn; sisters: Judy (John) Lympus of Cedar Rapids; Wanda Martin of Independence; mother-in-law, Margaret Meyer of Wall Lake; extended family and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Vicki (Al) Arnett; Eunice Crosser; Sharon O'Neil; and infant sister, Ina Mae Peters.
