Urban John Snyder
Urban John Snyder, age 80 of Storm Lake, died Jan. 9, 2011 at his home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Urban John Snyder was born on Feb. 19, 1930 to John and Josephine (Coon) Snyder in Breda. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda. Urban attended grade school at St. Bernard's Catholic School and at the age of fourteen began his life as a farmer, following in his father's footsteps.
On Aug. 4, 1953, Urban was united in marriage to Deloris Pfiefer at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield, Minn. Together, they were blessed with five children: Cathy, John, Donna, Tom and Kay.
Urban continued to farm on the family farm until moving to Storm Lake from Breda in 1963, where he continued his love for farming. He was an active member of the Farm Bureau and served as a 4-H Leader. Urban also found joy in restoring old tractors. Urban enjoyed being part of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. When Urban was not farming some of his favorite pastimes included playing in card clubs with many friends and spending time and creating memories with his family, especially with his grandchildren. His many nieces and nephews were always very special to him.
He was known for loving life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife. Deloris of Storm Lake; his children: Cathy Madson of Storm Lake; John Snyder of Storm Lake; Sister Donna Snyder, FSPA of Chippewa Falls, Wisc.; Tom (Kris) Snyder of Storm Lake; and Kay (Ted) Lenhart; grandchildren: Andee and Michael Madson, Allison (Doug) White, Kayla (Kevin Wells) Snyder, Matt Snyder, Colby, Tanner and Kendall Snyder, Anyssa, Alan, Dane and Trisha Lenhart; great grandchild: Brock White; sisters: Sister Jocelyn Snyder, FSPA of La Crosse, Wisc.; Dolora Snyder of Superior, Wisc.; and Lois (Merlin) Thelen of Marble Falls, Tex.; sister-in-law Rose Snyder of Carroll; extended family and many friends.
Urban was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine; brother, Rudell Snyder; brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Ethel Snyder; and sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Irwin Stork.
