John Sullivan, age 92, of Fonda, passed away Dec. 29, 2010 at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center in Fonda.

Funeral mass was held Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda was in charge of the arrangements.

John was born Oct. 23, 1918 to Michael and Lena (Orthman) Sullivan, of Varina. He was baptized and made his First Communion at St Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina.

John was united in marriage to Lorraine Junkman at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson. They had one son, Eldon, who is an ordained Deacon of the Catholic Church.

John was a man of the earth who farmed until his retirement in the early nineties. He took pride in his farms. Even after his retirement he enjoyed checking the land almost daily.

He had a great love for his family, and took special pride in his 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Lena; and one brother, Lawrence.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, of Fonda; his son, Eldon and his wife Sandy of Fonda; grandchildren: Patrick (Laurie) of Laurens; Michael, who is presently serving in Afghanistan, (Tammy) of Des Moines; Ann (Greg Larson) of Eagle Grove; Mary (Rick Baxter) of Lincoln, Neb.; Lisa Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; and John (Cyndi) of North Liberty; and 14 great grandchildren.
