George C. Thomas, age 78, of Storm Lake, died Nov. 29, 2010 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral mass was Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Huron, S.D. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

George C. Thomas II, the youngest of seven boys, was born June 11, 1932 on the family farm in Wessington, S.D., the son of George and Ada (DeLong) Thomas. Growing up, George attended Beadle County Country School. First and foremost, George was a farmer.

On Nov. 1, 1953, George enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in the Arctic and served his country during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged on Nov. 17, 1955. After the Army, George returned to the farm.

On July 24, 1965, George was united in marriage to Ann Quinn in Huron, S.D. Together, they were blessed with five children: Lorie Ann, Patrick Joseph, George Clair III, Garth Andrew, and Elizabeth Ann.

George enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, planting trees, woodworking, and mowing. He loved his family and traveling, especially to see the kids.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Ann of Storm Lake; children: Lorie Thomas of El Paso, Tex.; Patrick (Anke) Thomas of Yelm, Wash. and their children, Patrick and Penelope; George (Hilda) Thomas of El Paso, Tex.and their children, Xavier and Loghan; Garth (Karina) Thomas of Juarez, Mexico and their children: Carla, Garth Jr., and Kathryn; Elizabeth (Alejandro) Chavez of South Sioux City, Neb. and their children: Jessica, Maria, Ashley and Alexandra; brother, William (Elsie) Thomas of Springfield, Ore.; sisters-in-law: Audrey, Mary and Ruth Thomas all of Huron, South Dakota; extended family and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ada; brothers: Richard, Francis, James, Merlyn and Marion.
