Maxine M. Brisbois, age 86, died Nov. 8, 2010 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Maxine May Ashba was born Feb. 10, 1924 in rural Maxwell, to Ray and Pearl (Garlock) Ashba. She attended school in Maxwell, and graduated in 1942. After graduating from high school, she attended the American Institution of Business in Des Moines, graduating in 1944. Maxine was a semi-pro basketball player and attended the state tournament the only time the school went to state. Maxine played for the baseball team that the movie "A League of Their Own," was based on.

Following graduation, Maxine worked in Des Moines and Chicago until moving to Storm Lake. In 1947, she graduated from Western Iowa Tech School of Nursing and worked in the Nursing field in Storm Lake and Cherokee, for many years. Maxine worked for Dr. Mallard for 30 years, retiring from IBP in 1987.

On Nov. 30, 1951, Maxine was united in marriage to Donald Wayne Brisbois at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with five children: Connie, Randy, Mike, Kristi and Robert.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star at one time. She was very active in the community. Maxine enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, Jamaica and Hawaii. She loved flowers and cooking. Maxine treasured her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Randy Brisbois; Mike Brisbois; Kristi and fiancÚ, Dale Hahn; Robert Brisbois; grandchildren: Nicole (Bob) Nichols; Justin (Jordan) Gaffey; Tom Brisbois and fiancÚ, Jess; Jordan Brisbois and special friend, Rachel; great grandchildren: Hailey and AJ Gaffey; Kali and Kinlei Nichols; sister, Margaret Henning of Maxwell; sister-in-law, Marge Pender; extended family and friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Pearl; husband, Don; daughter, Connie Brisbois; and sister, Betty Hunter.
