Mary Jane Snedeker, age 77, of Storm Lake, died on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at her home in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Jane Russell, the daughter of Merritt and Elsie (Davis) Russell was born at Waterville, Vt. on Aug. 13, 1933. She lived her youth and received her education at various locations throughout Vermont.

On March 2, 1949, Mary Jane was united in marriage to Mark H. Snedeker in Colorado, and during years together they welcomed twelve children into their home: Mark, Jane, Sandra, Susie, Joel, Sharon, William, Mike, Maureen, Tom, Tammy, and Noel. Mark served his country in the United States Army and his career in the military took the family to many places including Colorado, Washington, Germany, and Oklahoma. In 1971, Mary Jane and Mark moved to Storm Lake where she has resided ever since. Mary Jane loved her employment as a nurse's aide at the Buena Vista Manor Care Center and always enjoyed going to work and caring of the residents. She touched many lives throughout her 27 years of caring there.

Mary Jane was very talented and will be remembered for her beautiful counted cross stitch work, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and baking. She especially loved her two cats Smarty and Sweety.

Mary Jane's life is celebrated by her family which include her children: Mark J. and Carol Snedeker of Storm Lake, and their son: Jeremy, Jane and Bob Owen of Memphis, Tenn., Susie and Danny Curry of Carroll, Joel and Angie Snedeker of Newport, N.C., Sharon L. Snedeker of Denton, TX, Mike and Judy Snedeker of Storm Lake, Maureen and Doug Lauritsen of Conyers, Ga., Tom and Nancy Snedeker of Garvin, Minn., Tammy and Jay Sassman of Rembrandt, and their son: Matthew, Noel and Debra Snedeker of Niceville, Fla., her two sisters: Pauline Menard of Newport, N.C., and Mattie Parrott of Milton, Vt. Though not mentioned by name, but equally loved, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mark H. Snedeker, her daughter: Sandra Schmidt, her son: William (Bill) Snedeker, and two brothers: James E. and William G. Russell.
