Denise (Hermstad) Kleaveland, age 50, of Marathon, died Oct. 6, 2010 at her home in Marathon.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Kindlespire Park on Oct. 16th, from 3 -- 6 p.m. for all family and friends. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Denise Ann Hermstad was born March 6, 1960 in Sioux Rapids, the daughter of Milo and Colleen (Cheevers) Hermstad. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids.
Growing up, Denise attended grade school and later graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1978. Following graduation she entered the United States Army where she served her country in Korea until she was honorably discharged.
When Denise returned from the service she worked at a medical office in Ohio before moving back to Iowa, where she waitressed and worked in a bakery.
On Sept. 29, 2010 Denise was united in marriage to David Kleaveland in Rochester, Minn.
Denise enjoyed fishing, outdoors and cooking. She was known for being a wonderful cook. She had a very special place in her heart for her beloved black lab, "Red." She treasured her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, David Kleaveland of Marathon; mother, Colleen Hermstad of Spencer; brothers: Mike Hermstad of Spencer; Tim Hermstad of Marathon; Jeff (Lori) Hermstad of Storm Lake; Brad (Heidi) Hermstad of Sioux Rapids; nieces and nephew: Heather and Haley Hermstad; Jaci and Alex Hermstad; Grayson and Kayley Hermstad; extended family and many friends.
Denise was preceded in death by her father, Milo, her brother, Bruce and her beloved dog "Red".
The family requests no flowers.
