Ruth Mildred Johanna Burns was born Jan. 9, 1912 near Kiron, the daughter of Albert and Tekla Nelson Anderson. Most of her schooling was at Marathon. She was married to Clifford Burns March 19, 1929 in Storm Lake. Four children were born to this union: James, Shirley, Darel and Nyle.

She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, holding several offices through the years.

Ruth was an excellent seamstress and quilter and also enjoyed crocheting. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles and continued to do both until a few weeks before her death. Family and friends were very important to her. She enjoyed traveling and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Sweden in 1981 where she met many cousins.

She was preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters, 4 brothers; husband, Clifford; son, James; one granddaughter and one grandson.
