Roy Austin Johnson, age 90, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Aug. 30, 2010 at the Silver Pines. Private family services were planned at a later date.
Roy was born Oct. 30, 1919 in Tracy, the son of Charles johnson and Mabel (Young) Johnson. He joined the United States Army following graduation, where he landed in Normandy and fought in the battle of the bulge and was also a WWII Veteran. Roy earned 3 Bronze Battle Stars for his military service. After being honorably discharged, Roy returned to Knoxville where he farmed and worked at the VA Hospital.
He enjoyed Cubs baseball, fishing, reading westerns and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Bickle Johnson in 1992; second-wife, Jeanie May Johnson; and a daughter-in-law, Marge Van Zee Johnson.
Roy is survived by his sons, Bill Johnson of Sioux Rapids, Earl (Carol) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; step-daughters, Marilyn Forkenbrock of Cherokee, Marcia Robbins of Alta; grandchildren, Tony Williams of Walford and Tyler Johnson of Appleton, WS, Trish Hagstrum of Cedar Rapids, Jyl DeJong of Knoxville, Cale Johnson of Sioux Rapids and 11 great-grandchildren.
