Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will take place in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Center of Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Joe was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Owatonna, Minn., to William and Hilda (Hassler) Wiggins. At the age of 7, he moved with his parents to Hardwick, Minn., and went to grade school there and continued his high school education in Luverne, Minn. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1940.
After graduation, he farmed with his parents in the Hardwick and Luverne areas.
He was united in marriage on Jan. 17, 1948, to Veronica Redder. They farmed in the Sioux Falls, S.D., area before moving to Sioux Rapids, and then to the Storm Lake area. They were blessed with 5 children.
Joe was an active member of Farm Bureau and helped with area 4-H activities. His passion of farming included raising sheep and cattle.
Grateful to have shared his life are his wife of 61 years, Veronica, his son Michael (Joyce) Wiggins, of Hawarden, his daughters Patricia (Thom) Feally of Coral Springs, Fla., Ann (Todd) Jamieson of Cedar Rapids, and Teresa (John) Guthmann of St. Paul, Minn. He is survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers, Fred (Gloria) and James (Loraine) Wiggins, sister Martha Wiggins, and brother-in-law, Dean Thul, as well as nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan in 1967, his grandson, Peter, his sister, Mary Wiggins Thul, and his parents.
