Maxine Johnson, age 86, of Fonda, died Sept. 17, 2010 at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center in Fonda.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements.
Maxine Clark was born Nov. 14, 1923 in Boone, the daughter of John and Bessie (Wade) Clark. Growing up, Maxine attended school in Pocahontas.
On April 30, 1940, Maxine was united in marriage to Reuben Johnson in Algona. Together they were blessed with six children: Catherine, Carol, Judy, Diane, Linda and Terry.
Maxine was an active farm wife while helping with field work and raising and dressing chickens to sell. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always welcoming grandkids to drop in. After moving to Fonda, Maxine owned and operated the Uptown Café with her daughter Catherine. Later selling her business, she continued to waitress at all food establishments in Fonda where she always enjoyed the people. Maxine enjoyed bingo, slot machines at the casinos, traveling, dancing, word find books and anything sweet. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Catherine (Harley) Smith of Fonda; Carol (Jack) Kiser of Sun City, Ariz.; Judy Richardson (special friend, Roger Hanish) of Emmetsburg; Diane (Allan) Goetschius of San Antonio, Tex.; Linda Peiffer of Ankeny; daughter-in-law, Penny Behrens; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Johnson of Graettinger; Beverly Mell of Pocahontas; extended family and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reuben; her son, Terry; five brothers: Oakley, Wilbur, Kenneth, Warren and Dean Clark; one grandchild; one great grandchild.
