"It was a total team effort," veteran coach Brian Wilken said. "We found things we need to work on, but this was an unbelievable effort tonight by everyone. This is a whole new ball game for us and we know we have things still to work out, but it's been an exciting change for us and our young men have adapted well and are having fun with it."
The fun started early on Friday night, as Nate Boevers fielded a kickoff and picked his way 79 yards for the opening score three minutes into the contest. A few minutes later, Brad Bohee got on the scoreboard with a 16 yard scamper, and with five minutes left in the first quarter Gerdes slammed through and rumbled 60 yards, then tacked on the two yard conversion run. Late in the quarter quarterback Jacob Hess hit Boevers for a 40-yard score to put NF up by a commanding 28-0 score at the end of the first frame.
In the second quarter Gerdes brought the Mustangs to paydirt on runs of 12 and 16 yards, and added a 17-yard TD run in the third quarter to make it 46-0.
