Lilie Maria Karoline Kuehl was born March 4, 1911 to Henry and Della (Struck) Kuehl. She was confirmed at Freidens Evangelical Church, Schleswig, on March 28, 1926.
In her early life Lillian was an Iowa farm girl, receiving her education in Schleswig, graduating high school in 1929. Lillian attended Iowa State Teachers college, Iowa State college, and later Buena Vista college in Storm Lake. She taught rural schools and Early schools before marrying Ted Struchen on July 30, 1939. One son, Don, was added to this union and later sons, John and Wayne were born.
Lillian had a love of art and was an accomplished artist and art teacher. She retired from teaching in 1973. She continued to study and paint most of her life. Many of her paintings were of the Southwest. She has lived in Iowa, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Washington DC, and Texas as well as traveling to Europe. Lillian will be remembered for being a loving mother, grandmother, and her abundant faith in God.
Lillian is survived by her sons: Don (Audrey) Struchen of Early, John (Pat) Struchen of Washington DC, Wayne (Eva) Struchen of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Sheryl Bamsey of Chandler, Ariz., Jo Helmers of Sumner, Steve (Kate) Struchen of Early, Scott (Sheryl) Struchen of Sac City, Todd (Irene) Struchen of San Antonio, TX, Corey Struchen of Amarillo, TX, Eric Struchen of New York, NY; great grandchildren: Josh, TJ, Jennifer, Zachary, Gabel, Brady, Matt, Keagan, Kolby, Jessica, Tana, Aimee, Belinda; great great grandchildren; Anthony, Sadera, Kaidan, Draven, Noah, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Della Kuehl, her sisters Hilda Stender and Ann Bielenberg, her brother Otto Kuehl, and nephew Don Bielenberg.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Early, at a later date.
