Kirby Hansen, age 57, of Everly, departed this earth to live with his heavenly Father, on June 19, 2010. He was hospitalized at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. and died from cancer complications.
Kirby Lee Hansen, son of Lowell and Kathryn (Donahoo) Hansen, of rural Alta, was born Aug. 4, 1952 at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. He attended Highview Consolidated School, in rural Alta, graduated from Sioux Valley Community School, Linn Grove-Peterson in 1971, and graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College, Emmetsburg, receiving an associate degree in Farm Management in 1973. Kirby worked for his grandfather, Robert F. Donahoo, and uncle, Robert C. Donahoo, on the farm near Peterson. Kirby began working for Morton Buildings in Spencer, in 1975, where he continued to work until he became ill this year.
On Nov. 9, 1975, he married Donna Beedle Bruns, of Sioux Rapids, and to this union, a son, Colin was born. Kirby is survived by his wife, Donna, step-son, Thomas Bruns, both of Everly; son Colin and daughter-in-law Angela Hansen, and grandson, Shaun Hansen, of Montgomery, Ala. He is also survied by his mother, Kathryn Hansen of Alta; sisters, Deanna (William) Lund of Norwalk, OH, and Lisa (Robert) Kraus of Edwardsville, Kan.; brothers, Gary (Judy) Hansen, of Estherville, and Victor (Jane) Hansen of Linn Grove; 6 nephews and a host of relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Hansen, grandparents, Albert and Amy Hansen, Robert and Leona Donahoo, and Vena Donahoo.
Kirby enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandson Shaun, bowling, camping, gardening, slot cars and raising show rabbits.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Warner Funeral Home of Everly, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove.
